Hi Folks,

The construction of the dyno

Hi Folks,

The construction of the dynohub turbine is going well at the moment and I hope to have it mounted and running by the weekend, so I need to turn my attention to the electronics side if Im going to use some of the free juice Im generating!

In my eternal quest not to spend any money I started looking at the insides of some dead electrical equipment I have lying around in search of a bridge rectifier and came across what I think is a rectifier in and old dusk/dawn sensor.

It has the code "W06" marked on it and I was wondering if it would be suitable to use on my dynohub turbine? A quick Google reveals that it’s for 240v operations but will it still work in 6/12v use? Or will the fact that its for 240v use render it useless at low voltages?

Ill be honest... Im a bit out of my depth with regard to the electronics side of things but Im trying to get myself up to speed as fast on possible.

Thanks in advance

Nick

Hi Nick

The W06 should be fine, it just has a higher voltage maximum (600v). It will still handle 1.5A of current which is more than adequate for the dynohub.
I used the W005, this has a max voltage of 50 volts, and can be seen here:
http://www.gotwind.org/circuit.htm

They do drop 1 volt at 1 amp of current per element - This just their nature and is normal.
