Thanks gotwind, any idea what blades i can run on the ametek 38vdc? bear in mind im asteelworker, so something out of stainless or aluminium would suit me! i have found someone who has 11 of these motors for £48 each - that includes postage to the uk

£48 each is an excellent price if it includes shipping, Im sure others here would be very interested.

The 4 foot diameter P.V.C blades in my plans are by far the easiest and quickest blades to make.
However, if you have access to aluminum, take a look at Terrys site in the U.S and maybe try and replicate the design.

I have a set of the Tri-Nado MM blades, they are made from substantial 1/8" (3mm) aluminum sheet.

Hi Agrifabs,

I have certainly read on the web somewhere about the spec of the 38V unit but I cant seem to find it now. From memory I think the the 38VDC unit needed a bit more rpm than the 30VDC to achieve cut-in voltage but would go on to produce slightly more max amperage, up to 10A I think. Probabaly a better unit if you have plenty wind. And very good value.

Cheers

Del.

Hi agrifabs i bought a AMETEK 38v of eBay a couple of weeks ago with shipping it was $96.99 if i remember right about £47 and a few pence so £48 about right.I wanted a arbour for it and gotwind put me on to this guy roul62@yahoo.com Ive just ordered one 15mins ago $40.44-£20.20 including shipping i tried to get one made here in the UK but nobody wanted to know and if they had it would probably have been mild steel and cost twice as much.I havent got mine up and running yet so i cant give you any specs ime working in a budget so im trying to get all the parts needed together then start putting it all together. As for buying from the US its been my experience since i started this project that even with shipping cost as with the arbour its still cheaper and quicker to get stuff from the US than rip off britain.Gotwind you say a 3ft diameter blade i bought your updated blade plans from eBay this afternoon there 24in 4ft diameter would you recomend using these or the smaller ones at the begining of the file.

thanks for your reply daveb, how much did it cost

thanks for your reply daveb, how much did it cost to get your ametek into britain? i have a lathe so perhaps i will make an arbour - saying that i might just buy one as i have a shedfull of work on at the moment,

it would be nice to get some statistics on the 38vdc motor as they seem to be quite readily available and really cheap, so i can see a few more gotwinds investing in them,

let me know when you get yours up and running,
