Energy saver plugs.
I've been using an energy saving plug for about 12 months on my PC and I'm very impressed with how it works. Turn your PC on and approximately 5 seconds after, it starts the printer, speakers, router etc up.
Admittedly if all the sockets were close to hand you wouldn't need one, but how many of us are in that situation, with all the peripherals plugged in behind a desk etc.
Other versions are available for laptops, audio visual etc
The one I use is Oneclick, but I dare say that there are others on the market.
