Low energy fridge testing

Funny time for me to be testing as I may have to load it up and get it in storage, but I have been wanting to try it since last year. Some mowings and some scrap metal paid for it, $162.

It's a fridgidaire 5.1 cf freezer. Initially I used 2 frozen ice jugs awaiting a kegerator thermostat. I was able to keep it in the 38f-44f range fairly easily. Currently it has pop, beer, water, juice.

The thermostat arrived yesterday, it cost $60 which I paid for after selling my pop and beer can accumulation.

First results are in; 78f ambient, 36f thermostat setting, 320wh for 24 hours. Initial startup is 900W, then drops to 140-150W.

Second test started today at noon where I set it at 38f, so far in three hours it has not kicked on yet. I believe 38f would be the high mark for an ideal fridge temp. I am anxious to get a 24hr reading tomorrow.

Re: Low energy fridge testing

140wh at 38f with 78f ambient for a 24 hour period, so now it proceeds into a 48hr test period to get another reading.

The most active time it is opened and closed is aprox 3 PM until 7 PM.

Re: Low energy fridge testing

I kind of took a gamble here, and still am as many will say don't run a freezer from MSW, others say they have for years with no issues.

I purchased it primarily for backup when the power goes off. It's a Cobra CPI 1575 1500W/3000W inverter. It handles the 900W initial surge fine from the kegerator, then the unit immediately drops to 140W. The voltage readout is nice, it has a watt readout which is very nice, and I can order an optional remote on/off switch, which I think I will.

The Trojans handle the load beautifully!
